Development Diary #1 Monday, Mar 30 2009

Today we did nothing on our website because we haven’t even started doing our websites yet, so we haven’t learned anything doing our website. An issue we faced today was actually getting the planning of our website together and discussing what we were going to do it on. We have not had any problems as yet besides getting the site started. Next lesson we plan to have our topic decided and also a brief idea of how we are going to do it.

Wk2 – “The world is getting smaller”. What does this mean? Saturday, Mar 28 2009

If the world is getting smaller, than I think that this would definitely have to do with the internet and television.

On the internet, people can access things from all over the world, images of other countries, ordering cheap goods, chatting to complete strangers who live 10 000kms away and even receive scams from people in Africa.

Television is much the same, with people being able to watch documentaries on places half way round the globe. Also most movies we watch are based in other parts of the world.

The fact that you can fly to America in 24 hrs makes it seem that the world may be getting smaller. Another reason the world is “getting smaller” is that we seem to have it at our fingertips. I don’t think that the world is getting smaller, (Ihope not), but rather we are now able to travel the world without leaving NSW.

What would the world look like if the internet was never invented? Monday, Mar 23 2009

I think the world would look much the same, except that there would be a few less advertisements. I say this because the internet does  not really exist outside a computer. Therefore, how can it change the way that the world itself looks?

3rd Focus Question Monday, Feb 23 2009

“What current real life story do you think could be used as a parable to teach a specific beatitude for Christian followers?”

Real life stories that are always current but hardly ever discussed among the public, much less on the news. These stories are those of the Christian martyrs. One such story that I will expose is the story of Cassie Bernall. She was shot dead at the columbine shooting. All she did to deserve her death was the simple confirmation “Yes, I believe in God.”

Blessed are they that suffer persecution for justice’ sake, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

2nd Focus Question Monday, Feb 23 2009

“If you were given the opportunity to write a chapter for the bible what would you write about? What messages would you want your readers to take away?

If I could write a chapter of the bible, I think that I would write a letter concerning all youths. In this letter I would outline many of the issues that they face today and give them advice on how to deal with them, but not on their own. They would need to pray and seek God’s will. I would also write about how Jesus was once a teenager and would have had the same problems, I would give examples of these.

I would want the readers to take away the messages of hope, perseverance and encouragement. Hope because many adolescents face depression and have little hope for a brighter way, I would write to help them pull through and start looking for the light rather than just sitting back and believing there is no light. Perseverance because often the road to salvation is tough and at times you feel like giving up all together. They need to keep going no matter what else is happening around them, they must continue their journey. Lastly, encouragement because if you dont receive encouragement you can easily think that you are not doing the right thing, which can make you stop it altogether. They need to be encouraged to do the right thing and continue doing it.

What if the Bible were never written? Sunday, Feb 8 2009

If the bible were never written then the following things would not be known worldwide:

  1. The history of the Israelites
  2. Jesus’ life and teachings
  3. The Acts of the Apostles
  4. Paul’s missions and letters
  5. Revelations
  6. Other various books of the bible (I will not name them)

Although, along with all these important Christian documents, the most important thing that would not be around is the Word of God. This is instrumental for the Christian faith as it provides encouragement, direction, hope, teaching and the life, death and resurrection of our Lord.

Without the Bible, Christians would be lost.

Police believe Barry John Faulkner, dubbed Australia’s “Catch Me If You Can” bandit, is luring victims to Sydney airport. Since April, a dozen people have fallen for his trap.

The Daily Telegraph can reveal the 59-year-old – a registered child sex offender who has a history of child sex abuse dating back to the 1960s – is being sought by the Australian Federal Police.

The many faces of Barry John Faulkner

The latest guise of Faulkner, who has conned people while posing as a doctor, an airline pilot, a CIA agent, an American military officer and a member of The Monkees, is as an employee of a Sydney airport-based courier firm.

He persuaded his victims that he could supply them with cheap motorcycles, including expensive Italian Ducatis, perfume and jewellery.

It is believed he was also conducting similar acts at Brisbane airport in January. He was also being sought in NSW on other warrants.

The AFP yesterday issued a warning for people to be on the lookout for a man offering motorcyles, perfumes or jewelery at Sydney airport. He may appear to be as a Worker for the airport.

“Airport uniform police at Sydney have had two reports of people being approached by a man who offered special deals on goods that were never produced,” a spokesman said.

“On each occasion the man offered to purchase items such as a Ducati motorcycle, perfume and watches from auctions of unclaimed goods from the airport,” he said.

In 2006, Faulkner was sentenced to 16 months’ imprisonment for child sex abuse and failing to report to police under the Child Protection Register as a child sex offender.

The court was told his criminal history in NSW alone stretched to 30 pages.

Faulkner once featured on the television program Australia’s Most Wanted and at one stage was wanted in five states at the same time.

REAL ONE

ONE of Australia’s most notorious fraudsters has returned to Sydney to prey on unsuspecting commuters.

Police believe Barry John Faulkner, dubbed Australia’s “Catch Me If You Can” bandit, is luring victims to Sydney airport. Since April, a dozen people have fallen for his scam, netting him thousands of dollars.

The Daily Telegraph can reveal the 59-year-old – a registered child sex offender who has a history of fraud dating back to the 1960s – is being sought by the Australian Federal Police.

He persuaded his victims that he could supply them with cheap motorcycles, including expensive Italian Ducatis, perfume and jewellery.

He presented forged paperwork from the courier company and told them he had access to the unclaimed goods that had passed through Australian Customs, saying the goods would be destroyed if he did not sell them.

His meeting point for the transactions has been Sydney’s international airport, drawing the attention of AFP in charge of airport security who have received reports of Faulkner’s frauds.

It is believed other victims may have reported the frauds to police stations around Sydney.

His most recent fraud occurred this month when he took $3000 as an up-front payment for goods at the airport before disappearing.

It is believed he was also conducting a similar scam at Brisbane airport in January. He was also being sought in NSW on other warrants.

Individual Task 1 Monday, May 5 2008

Journal 8 Sunday, May 4 2008

Today we did the Acids and carbonates. We had to mix sodium bicarbonate, ammonium carbonate and calcium carbonate with nitric acid and hydrochloric acid. We then had to test each of these solutions with matches first and then with limewater.

Often the smoke from the match flame got sucked down into the tube when a carbonate and nitric acid were mixed. When the match was tested with hydrochloric acid and a carbonate, it mainly started to bubble.

Most of the time when limewater was mixed with a carbonate and nitric acid, it went cloudy, this also happened with the hydrochloric acid.

Some safety issues may be with nitric acid, it is highly corrosive and toxic and in its pure state is very smelly. Also Hydrochloric acid is highly corrosive as well.
